"Your enthusiasm gladdens me," Cobalt had said softly, smiling lovingly at the young male. The strong-shouldered male closed his eyes as he trotted a few paces away.
"First, you must identify your target. If you rush into things without a single heed to directions or aim, you are rushing into failure, defeat, and possibly your own death," the blue tom had instructed, crouching with his tail low and ears up. "You must recognize my status as a leader, shown by evidence of my bearings. Arctic, on the other hand, is not much of a threat so you don't have to use as much caution on that front with him as you do me. During our tactics, I will not use my true strength unless giving a demonstration or if I feel threatened." He had been given an encouraging smile.
"Now, get into your fighting posture. Hackles raised, spine arched, body crouched. This way, you're defending your vulnerable areas and showing the others that you're not kidding around. All right, give it a try," his father had told Heron.
It seemed like yesterday when this training had been going on for Heron, but no, he was seventeen moons now. The blue-gray tabby tom awoke from his remembrances from his place on his rock. His beautiful eyes blinked and he turned his head left and right, wondering what it was that had woken him up. He seemed to have a sense about cats entering the vicinity around him. [/sub]

A mottled colored tom lay not too far from Heron. He lie asleep, but his twitching indicated that he was dreaming.
Chaffinch stood in a small clearing. Tall grasses and gawdy-colored wildflowers surrounded him. Something about this place seemed familiar to Chaffinch. The dull roar of a river sounded from not too far off. He took a step forward, only to slip in something. He looked down at his paws. They were in a pool of blood. He tried to step back but found that he couldn't move. He tried to yell out something, but his mouth refused to open. Then, the grasses in front of him shook. And out came Robin. She was covered in fresh wounds. just like how she had been when...when... Chaffinch wanted to look away, but he couldn't. He could only stare at her, horrible as she was. She stopped in front of him, a manacing look on her face. It's time for revenge, Chaffinch! I'll kill you, just like you killed me! She lunged for his throat, and only then could he scream. No!!!!
Chaffinch was still screaming when he woke up. He then realized his dream was gone. He panted loudly and stopped screaming. He began to groom himself, to hide the cold sweat that soaked his fur. No one could ever know that he had killed Robin. No one. And something like this could give him away. [/blockquote][/color]

Heron nearly jumped two feet in the air when he heard Chaffinch's yowling. The tomcat hurriedly ran to the other male's side, eyes wide in concern. "Chaffinch? Chaffinch! Are you okay?" he demanded, pushing on the male's shoulder. When the tom woke up and began grooming himself, Heron sighed and padded around to look at him. "Hey, what was that about?" he wanted to know. He wondered if it was a nightmare but if it was from Aurora herself, he didn't want to know. He remembered the oldsters telling him that if you didn't wake up screaming from a nightmare from the goddess, you wouldn't wake up at all. It was as if she controlled your life in the dream world as well, and if you died there, you would die in your sleep in the real world. Heron didn't doubt if that was true or not.

Chaffinch practically jumped a tail-length when he heard Heron come up to him. He heard me! Chaffinch's mind scrambled as he thought of a lie. Umm, let's see...I had a nightmare, and I saw this monster... No, that's not a good excuse... But Heron was waiting, and he had to speak now. His voice trembled unnaturally when he said, Oh, I just had this nightmare... The rest of his words wouldn't come out. Why was it so hard to lie to Heron? He knew he had to tell Heron the truth. Well, part of the truth. I had this nightmare...about Robin...Oh, I miss her... His head drooped. No tears came, though. He wasn't that good. [/blockquote][/color]

"Oh," Heron said quietly. He looked away for a moment and then returned Chaffinch's gaze before looking down. "Right." The tomcat turned away, long tail swaying. He gathered his bed together so it looked somewhat decent and then began to groom himself. He paused for a second to look over at Chaffinch. "Do you feel like going for a patrol and a hunt today?" he asked the other tom. The young blue made no comment on the other's dream. If he wanted to keep its contents to himself, that was all on him. He was curious as to what it was about. It couldn't have just been Robin. Maybe it was the nature of her death, however that had happened. Heron had heard so many rumors.

Chaffinch's head came up in surprise. No one was usually friendly anymore. Sometimes that's why he was moody. But wasn't that what was keeping them away? He ignored the thought. Maybe today he wouldn't be moody. Maybe today would be a good day. Chaffinch nodded slowly. Okaay. Sounds good. He brushed a paw over on ear to stop his trembling. Don't worry, it was all a dream... "Do ya guys mind if I join ya?"
A sweet high-pitched voice was heard from the front of the Spire. She stared into the clearing at the two tomcats, her bright yellow and amber eyes gleaming in the sunlight. Her black and white pelt swayed in the soft breeze and for once she was in a wonderful mood that morning. She had had a wonderful dream that Cobalt took her kits to the top of the Spire and didn't drop them off. And her sleep was undisturbed by any younger cats like usual since she usually slept in that area of the second floor. Then she had went out on an early morning hunt, caught two rabbits and a squirrel, and gave a big fat rabbit to Cobalt which made him very very happy. Equinox loved making cats happy, especially when she was happy herself.
The thin black and white she-cat trotted over to meet the two cats near the edge of the clearing and sat down beside them, grooming her face with her paws. "Where we goin t'day?" she asked smiling brightly and with her eyes twinkling she stared off at the territory wondering where they would hunt.

"Hey, Equinox!" Heron exclaimed brightly. The lithe blue tom grinned and padded over to the female hunter, touching noses with her. "Sure, I don't mind." The tomcat turned his gentle eyes over to Chaffinch, trying to catch the other male from drifting off again. "Hey, Chaffinch, do you care if Equinox comes with us?" He shrugged, standing between the larger male and the tuxedo female. His tail curled and waved side to side.

Chaffinch shrugged. It didn't matter to him. It seemed as if Heron had already turned his attention away from Chaffinch and to Equinox. He would probably be ignored. As always. He meowed quietly, I don't mind. He quickly groomed himself, before turning back to the two cats. Where would you like to go? [/blockquote][/color]

Equinox smiled brightly at Heron as he greeted her and agreed that she could come. "Hi Heron," she mewed, sitting herself down. She began to groom her face with her paws. As the younger male spoke to Chaffinch she almost felt slightly guilty that she had walked in on their hunting party. She sighed and continued to groom her face. At the question of where they would hunt, Equinox shrugged and looked up at the toms. "Well its a sunny day. Maybe Lullaby Hill would be a pleasent place to hunt?" she suggested looking from Chaffinch to Heron and then continued grooming her face.

Chaffinch shrugged in reply. Equinox was right, the sun was high in the sky now. The rays warmed his pelt. He stood up taller, and craned his neck to reach higher. The sun seemed to give him power, as if his fuel was sunlight. He closed his eyes and let out a small purr. Maybe today would be a good day. He opened his eyes and turned back to Heron and Equinox. I think Lullaby Hills would be nice. He could imagine the wide-open territory, the loping hills, the gentle wind whistling through his fur... [/blockquote][/color]
