The sky was a mild blue, the clouds icy white. For a winter's day, it was surprisingly bright. Too bright to resist; for Carawaypaw at least. The lean little tabby skipped through the frosty stems of grass, some of which brushed her cheeks. Her mud-coloured fur was fringed with the icy dust, her ears pinned back with excitement. It was the first time she'd ever been out by herself - she hadn;t exactly asked, but so what? Carawaypaw swung her long, striped tail in a wheel, ridding it of its icy coating. The young she-cat let out a little mewl of joy as she spotted the rocky sides of the gorge up ahead, and quickened her step.
Carawaypaw pranced along some of its length, before leaning over the edge, her small paws perched precariously on the edge of the rocks. The tabby apprentice let out a long, awestruck breath from deep in her throat. The water rushed along in a violent torrent. She imagined slipping in, and an excitable shudder ran through her body. Carawaypaw turned around as an eagle winged past. She moved too fast. Her hind paws slipped on the foam-wet rock, and she slid backward with a gasp. Carawaypaw clawed furiously at the edge, her claws straining to breaking point. If she let go, she'd fall into the gorge.
"Help!"

[xx] Mother Come back to me it's almost easy Said it all Come back again it's almost easy [xx]
It was rather pointless looking for prey at this point so she had abandoned her search a bit, taking a relaxed walk along the lake. The half-moon was out even in the daylight, she noticed, and the sun shimmered brillantly along the surface of the breaking waves along the shore and the ripples of frogs leaping into the water in her wake. Her footfalls were inaudible as she padded past large reeds, sunlight catching on her silvery gray and white pelt and throwing it back.
She paused and nosed her muzzle past the rocks, seeing the rapid cold waves that bucked and reared like wild horses. Celestialstar ejected her head and flicked her black-banded tail, turning her silvery body towards the RainClan territory. A pungent, tangy scent caught her curiosity and she padded closer. She turned her head, sunlight throwing itself upon her enigmatic eyes before dying once her paw stepped forward into the shade.
Her eyes widened at the sudden yelp and she turned her head, lifting it. Celestialstar leapt forward and paused at the edges, seeing Carawaypaw. Her eyes saddened but steeled in determination. "Carawaypaw!" the beautiful she-cat's voice rang out like a skylark's. The lithe leader stepped forward, frowning at the prospect. However, she forced doubting thoughts away and she leapt forward onto another rock, hopping over to the other she-cat. Her claws unsheathed and she grabbed the other femme's paws. "Come on, Carawaypaw! I've got you," Celestialstar called.[/sup]

The lithe tabby clawed at the rock, her teeth bared in fear. Carawaypaw's pupils dilated with terror, her hind legs thrashing in mid air. "Please help me!" she begged, but the wind was bitter and brought about no answer. Carawaypaw began to cry noisy tears, her sides heavy. She was going to die. She knew it. Suddenly she felt teeth grasp her forepaws, and something pulling her to safety. Carawaypaw pushed upward with her hind paws, now touching the rock, so that she flew forward in a great leap. The brown tabby apprentice rolled over and over in the grass, until she managed to gain her paws. For a moment, the youngster stood, breathing quickly and shakily, her green eyes wide. Then she spotted Celestialstar, and hastily ducked her head in respect. "Umm, hi, Celestialstar," she mumbled, shuffling her paws. "Thanks for saving me..." Carawaypaw looked at the ground, aware she had been well and truly busted. Mouse-dung!.

She pulled up the apprentice and Celestialstar rolled as well, but the female gracefully came to her feet from her place in the soft grass. She turned her elegant head towards Carawaypaw and approached her. "Are you unhurt?" she asked the apprentice, surveying the other fae to make sure everything was all right. Concern splashed across Celestialstar's face; the silver she-cat's tail waved left to right as she paced around Carawaypaw in worry.

Carawaypaw averted her eyes from Celestialstar's anxious face. Great. Now I'm going to be in trouble. The lithe brown tabby shook her head. "I think I'm okay," she mewed, though one limb still stung. The she-cat scuffed her paws on the grass for a moment longer, before soeaking. "Look, Celestialstar, I'm sorry I went out alone," she mewed, trying to sound sorry. "I didn't know who to ask, and I was bored... Sorry." Carawaypaw looked at her paws, praying that her apology would drag her out of trouble.

Celestialstar's gentle eyes brightened at the news of Carawaypaw being unhurt. "I am most glad," she said quietly. The she-cat tilted her head, surveying the apprentice for a moment. As the other apologized, Celestialstar smiled a bit. "No need to apologize. I understand an apprentice's adventurous streak. Just make sure you don't do it again, okay? I might not be here to save you," the leader said, flicking her tail to make sure the firmness was placed. Her brows raised towards the other she-cat. "You can ask me next time. Then we can go together." The pretty femme smiled at this.

Carawaypaw dipped her head in obedience, inside relieved that she was not being punished. The brown tabby she-cat stared at her paws a moment longer, before looking up. "Yes, Celestialstar," she mewed, her bold voice bright once more. Her green eyes had lost their tinge of fear - it was almost as though Carawaypaw had forgotten her ordeal already. The adventurous she-cat padded gingerly to the edge of the gorge and peered over, this time watching where she placed her paws. The brown apprentice winced as she spotted the sharp shards of rock, and imagined falling down there. "Ouch," she murmured, before turning back to face Celestialstar. "Celestialstar?" she mewed, looking up at the leader with wide eyes. "Y'know, I probably wouldn't go off by myself like this if I had a mentor..." Carawaypaw scuffed the grass with her forepaws, hoping the she-cat would take her 'subtle' hint.

Celestialstar nodded to Carawaypaw, grooming herself as the other she-cat looked at the rocks that could have been her doom. The beautiful femme's eyes lifted as Carawaypaw neared her, shuffling her paws slightly. Another smile creased her face as the apprentice spoke.
"Ah, yes, the ceremonies. Do not worry. I have not forgotten you. There are some other apprentices that need mentors as well. Its a hard decision to try and see who all would work best together," Celestialstar said. "Trying to match personalities and backgrounds with someone compatible. I'm not perfect but I try to give the apprentice and the mentor the best experience possible by the end of their tenure. Actually, I think you and me make a good team." She smiled and looked over at Carawaypaw.
"Race you home. If you win, I'll let you give the Clan Gathering cry," Celestialstar said.

Carawaypaw watched Celestaialstar, one large, pointed ear pricked, though she wasn't really listening. All she heard was a jumble of big words. The brown tabby nodded sagely, as though she had understood every fibre and syllable. The lean apprentice's face lit up at Celestialstar's last words; she had understood those! Carawaypaw gave a vigorous nod, turned tail and ran, her long, athletic limbs carrying her back towards camp. Longing throbbed inside of her - she was going to have a mentor! Finally! She gave a loud purr, shutting her green eyes breifly, her paws a blur of activity beneath her.

Celestialstar laughed good-naturedly and ran after Carawaypaw, lengthy legs carrying her a farther distance than those of the apprentice's. The silver femme's pads slammed down upon the earth until she was brought even enough with Carawaypaw. Her green eyes twinkled as she pulled ahead, ivory fur shimmering like the waters.
"Don't be late, Carawaypaw!" she grinned.
[[I'll post a thread at camp. Carawaypaw can still call even if she doesn't win]]
